Our Perioperative Outcomes Lab at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), Harvard Medical School, led by PI Maximilian S. Schaefer, MD, PhD is dedicated to high-quality outcomes research in perioperative medicine. A strong focus of our research are lung-protective mechanical ventilation strategies both in the operating room and intensive care unit. In addition, we are investigating how variations in clinical practice affect patient recovery and relevant outcomes after anaesthesia or critical illness. We aim to enhance patient safety and optimize surgical outcomes, contributing to the broader field of anesthesiology and critical care.
